I remember mum as a lovely and devoted mother, nan and grandma. The children in her family were the centre of her world. She embraced the joys and responsibilities of bringing up Marilyn and I with unconditional love, and she stoically endured the challenges of Dad’s frequent tours of duty which spanned two decades and included the Second World War, 2 years in the Korean War and various other 6month tours. I will treasure those childhood memories. The strongest and abiding memory of my early childhood is the smell and softness of her newly laundered cardigan as she cuddled me.
